"This is the way it was meant to be"(279).

"Whenever you look back and say, 'If', you know you're in trouble. There's no such thing as "if." The only thing that counts is what really happened, and the truth was that every chance I got, I screwed up. Even when I thought I had done something good, it always turned out bad" (280).

The star symbolizes connection. There's a connection between all the different dimensions in Halla. The moment one world falls into chaos, all the other worlds slowly but surely fall with it. If all the dimensions fall into chaos, then all of Halla ends.

Setting:

This story takes place in modern times. There are two main settings of which this story takes place: one is at Denduron and the other is at Stony Brook, New York. Denduron is another territory or dimension that is far behind the technology that Second Earth has. What is Second Earth? Second Earth is the territory Bobby Pendragon and his friends live on, also known as just Earth to those of its inhabitants. Now back to Denduron. Denduron is a territory that's in the "Medieval Age", meaning that there are no indoor plumbing, electricity, and no efficient way in bringing clean, fresh water to the villagers. The bathroom is basically just a hole in the ground. On Denduron, two tribes, the Milago and the Bedoowan, are on the verge of an important war while on Second Earth, Bobby's friends, Mark Dimond and Courtney Chetwynde, are quietly dealing with the disappearance of Bobby and reading all the journals that Bobby sent to them.

Plot Summary: Bobby Pendragon and his uncle Press are Travelers. Travelers are people who travel through flumes to go to other territories to save the territories from falling into chaos. Their mission: save Denduron and save Halla. With the help of three other travelers, Osa, Loor, and Alder, they try and succeed in saving Denduron. But it isn't easy. Another traveler Saint Dane stands in their way and his plan is to make all of Denduron and the other territories fall into chaos so that Halla falls into chaos. Halla is everything, all territories in all time periods. As Bobby goes on his mission to save Denduron, he writes to his friends, Courtney Chetwynde and Mark Dimond, by sending them journals of his adventures so that if something were to happen to him, someone would know what he had been through. Throughout the book, Bobby learns that there's more important things in life than being a high school jock in Stony Brook. He learns that he can't just think about himself because it's not just about him, it's about everything. It's about Halla.
